Richard Saltoun Gallery is pleased to present a booth focused on Simryn GILL (b. 1959), one of Australia’s most prominent contemporary artists, whose oeuvre encompasses sculpture, photography, text, and experimental printing techniques often influenced by her surroundings. The presentation will feature ink works on paper and Channel (2014), a series of 29 photographs taken in a mangrove forest on the coast of the artist's hometown in Malaysia.
Gill's pieces will be exhibited alongside paintings by Tanzania-born artist, writer and curator Everlyn NICODEMUS (b. 1954), recipient of the 2022 Freelands Award, and Hong Kong-born artist and feminist theorist Rosa LEE (1957–2009).
Nicodemus's works address themes of diasporic identity, personal and cultural trauma as well as the role art can play in healing. Lee is known for creating a revolutionary style of decorative abstraction within the UK in the 1980/90s that dismantled the hierarchy of fine art over craft.
