For miart 2025, the gallery will present a solo exhibition of iconic neon sculptures by renowned Italian artist, Gino MAROTTA in the Portal section.
Marotta is celebrated for his revolutionary integration of organic and synthetic forms in sculpture, through the use of industrial materials like methacrylate. Internationally recognized, he exhibited twice at the Venice Biennale, first with a solo exhibition in 1984 and later representing Italy in 2011 with Cronotopo virtuale (Virtual Chronotope), a striking immersive environment of colored light, which inspires the gallery's presentation.
Marotta, a defining figure in Italy's neo-avant-garde movement of the 1960s and 70s, reinterpreted natural motifs with a hypermodern aesthetic that captures the tensions between urbanity and nature. Gaining prominence in the 1960s, Marotta moved beyond the dominant Arte Informale movement of the time, turning instead to explore a “dynamic synthesis” of figuration, visual language, and codes. This exploration marked his transition into a signature style using industrial materials—especially methacrylate—to construct vibrant, synthetic landscapes. Through these, Marotta created poetic realms populated by stylized trees, animals, lightning, and abstracted celestial elements.
In the Main section, the gallery will present a group exhibition with works by:
Carmen DIONYSE, Cleo FARISELLI, Claudia DI FRANCESCO, Bice LAZZARI, Giuseppe PENONE, Flaminia VERONESI, Bea SCACCIA, Greta SCHÖDL, Cy TWOMBLY
