“In The Veil, I present a critical representation of the patriarchal norms that govern women's lives in Bihar, India. The veil, a veil worn by women as a token of honour, serves as a potent symbol of oppressive tradition. Stitched to the veil are the Bhojpuri songs and posters, which originated in Bihar, that perpetuate the eroticization and commodification of women's bodies. Through the inscription of phrases ‘मेरी घर’, ‘मेरी जमीन’,’, मेरी आसमान’,’, मेरी पहचान’, (My home, My land, My sky, and My identity), I interrogate the notion of selfhood.

By juxtaposing the veil and Bhojpuri posters, I highlight the contradictions between women's lived experiences and their representation in popular culture. This artwork aims to illuminate the societal realities that shape women's lives in Bihar, India, encouraging a critical examination of the power dynamics that govern women's agency and autonomy”.
