A central object and installation of UTOPIA (of Renate's Trilogy AMO ERGO SUM) this is considered by the artist to be one of her most important works. First exhibited in 1990 for an exhibition for Amnesty International Exhibition, this sculpture was inspired by Christian biblical imagery of Jesus Christ and two criminals each being crucified on the cross (the three crosses at Calvary).
Three bandaged hearts, shrouded in veils, are crucified to their own crosses: "It is dedicated to all women all over the world , who have been humiliated, hurt, raped, murdered and who have sacrificed their life in the name of LOVE". (Renate Bertlmann)
