Allegorising the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve’s expulsion from Eden, the Expulsion from Paradise shows a bird fleeing from a painted circular orbit, leaving a trail of blood. The story of Adam and Eve was a source of interest for s series of work by Bertlmann at the time: the balance between good and evil and man and woman reflected in later works around the same theme.
