    Richard Saltoun

Founded in 2012 in London, Richard Saltoun Gallery specialises in Modern and Post-War art, guided by a strong focus on rediscovering the work of important yet under-recognised women artists through presentations at all its locations, online exhibitions, publications, events and participation in art fairs around the world. With three international locations, Dover Street in London, Via Margutta in Rome, and on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York, the gallery provides an important hub for discussion, collaboration, and collecting.

    Austrian Pavillion, Venice Biennale, 2019

Since its inception, Richard Saltoun Gallery has been driven by an interest in serving a wider purpose and is now recognised for its critically and socially engaged programme. In 2019, the gallery launched a year-long initiative titled 100% Women that aimed to address gender inequality in the art world. In 2021, it dedicated all exhibitions to the writings of political philosopher Hannah Arendt in a 12-month programme On Hannah Arendt, to confront some of the most complex socio-political issues of our time. It frequently collaborates with esteemed curators to realise institutional-level exhibitions, such as Eva Brioschi, Flavia Frigeri, Tamar Garb, and Catherine de Zegher among others.

The gallery is considered a leader in its representation of women avant-garde pioneers of the 1960s and ‘70s, such as Eleanor Antin, Annegret Soltau, Penny Slinger and Renate Bertlmann, as well as a younger generation of female artists including Silvia Giambrone and Florence Peake.

    Frieze New York 2019

The roster has an equally strong emphasis on established contemporary artists whose practices engage with the politics of migration and the complexities of diasporic identity, with artists Fathi Hassan, Vivienne Koorland, Everlyn Nicodemus, Berni Searle and Jan Wade amongst others.

The gallery preserves the legacy of artists through estate representation, including Helen Chadwick, Romany Eveleigh, Franca Maranò, Erica Rutherford, Juliana Seraphim, Jo Spence and Barbara Levittoux-Świderska among others. It acts as a consultant to major museums and public institutions and advises private and corporate collections. It actively documents the work of its artists through the production of publications and frequently stages talks, screenings and performances.
