Her face shows pure enjoyment. Although her battle with her weight was a constant source of trauma, the enjoyment that she derived from eating was at odds with her dissatisfaction with her body. Regardless, Jo Spence never shied away from photographing herself naked: even when she was at her heaviest, her body was her medium, and she was never ashamed of it. This work is a very classic attempt to get at the roots of her emotional eating.Provenance
