Performance starts at 6pm | RSVP
Join us for Anna Perach's new performance within the framework of her inaugural solo exhibition A Leap of Sympathy at Richard Saltoun Gallery, taking place on Thursday, 15 May at 6pm.
The performance will be followed by a public opening reception between 6:30 – 8:30pm.
Perach’s latest exhibition unveils an entirely new body of work that continues her research into female archetypes across mythology, folklore and fairytales through the medium of textiles, featuring a site-specific sculptural textile installation, wall-mounted glass works, watercolours, and the centrepiece of the show — Olimpia, an installation of two large-scale feminine sculptures in rococo inspired dresses, inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s Gothic fiction The Tales of Hoffmann, and also marking the artist’s first-ever use of robotics in her practice. Perach interprets Olimpia and Clara—two central figures in Hoffmann’s story—as representations of the self’s divided nature: Clara embodies societal norms of logic, while Olimpia represents the repressed, chaotic aspects subjected to patriarchal control. These tensions, and the relationship between the two figures and the viewer will be explored in two performances; during on the opening night of the exhibition (Thursday, 15 May | 6pm) and during London Gallery Weekend (Friday, 6 June 2025 | 5PM), incorporating live music, vocal elements and choreographed movement.
A Leap of Sympathy has been developed in conjunction with East Gallery, Norwich, where it will travel in September this year.
