Action, Gesture, Performance

Annegret SOLTAU and Renate BERTLMANN's works are featured in the large-scale exhibition Action, Gesture, Performance: Feminism, the body and abstraction at Whitechapel Gallery.

 

The exhibition accompanies Action, Gesture, Paint: Women Artists and Global Abstraction 1940-70 and focuses on pioneering dance and performance practices by women artists who were using their bodies to explore freedom of expression, subjectivity and politics, such as American choreographer Martha Graham (1884 – 1991) visual artist Carolee Schneemann (1939 – 2019), Ana Mendieta (1948 – 1985) and Niki de Saint Phalle (1930 – 2002).

 

The exhibition is open 17 January – 7 May 2023.
