“It’s an honour and privilege to open a gallery in NYC, a city renowned for hosting some of the most important exhibitions of the past 100 years.
We look forward to contributing to this thriving artistic landscape.”
- Richard Saltoun
Richard Saltoun Gallery announces the opening of its New York gallery located at 19 E. 66th Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The gallery will open with the solo exhibition
COLORED ENTRANCE by Canadian artist,
Jan WADE, on Thursday May 2, during New York Frieze Week.
Located in the heart of Lenox Hill in the Upper East Side Historic District, the new gallery occupies the 3rd floor of a classical Manhattan townhouse built in 1920. The gallery is in close proximity to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and several other commercial galleries.
Marking an exciting new chapter for the gallery following the opening of its Rome, Italy space in 2022, Richard Saltoun’s expansion to New York reflects the gallery’s commitment to championing the works of overlooked female artists on the global stage. Founded in 2012 in London, as one of the very first galleries to focus its programme around women, the gallery’s permanent presence in New York will give further visibility to its artists within the vibrant US artistic ecosystem.
This inaugural show will be with one of the most important contemporary Canadian artists,
Jan WADE (b. 1952). This will be Wade’s first solo exhibition in the United States, in anticipation of her major museum retrospective Soul Power opening at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Ontario in June 2024. Previously at Vancouver Art Gallery (2021/22) this landmark exhibition marked the first solo show for a Black woman in the museum’s ninety-year history. The exhibition at Richard Saltoun New York will showcase both current and historic work that explore Black postcolonial identity and spirituality from a deeply personal perspective.
