Alexis Hunter 1 - 31 Mar 2024 Richard Saltoun Gallery presents Feminist mythologies, an online exhibition featuring works on paper by Alexis HUNTER (1948-2014), a key figure in British feminist art.
The show coincides with Hunter's solo exhibition 10 Seconds, curated by Goldsmiths CCA's Senior Curator, Natasha Hoare, on view at the gallery until 30 March. It also complements Hunter's presence in the exhibition at Tate Britain, Women in Revolt!: Art, Activism and the Women’s movement in the UK 1970–1990, on view until 7 April and touring to the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh later this year. Penny Slinger 1 Dec 2022 - 30 Jan 2023 Produced as a thesis, the book 50% the Visible Woman by Penny Slinger was a response to Max Ernst's collages book Une Semaine de Bonte and La Femme 100 Tetes. While Slinger was inspired by the magic of surrealism, she was also struck by Ernst's poor representations of women.
Showcased in this online show are the series of Slinger's own photographic collages, in which the artist "employs Surrealism's tools and methods to create a language for the feminine psyche to express itself." Read more -

In the same way that the French maison used technology to reimagine the relationship between body and garment, Bettineschi re-interprets iconic portraits of Renaissance women in contemporary key-painted black and with two pairs of eyes that pierce bewildered viewers attracted by their absolute beauty and integrity. Second in the series is a virtual exhibition of work by Rose ENGLISH, featuring some of her earliest works from the 1970s that illustrates Brett’s description of her practice as being on the “borderline of playing and being.” The exhibition will also include a new print realised especially for the presentation. Greta Schödl: Marbles
10 - 29 May 2021 Part of Saltoun Online, this virtual presentation brings together 92-year-old Greta SCHÖDL’s new and never-before-seen series of marble works made during lockdown in Bologna, her hometown since 1959. In Marmi [Marbles], as in most of Schödl’s work, the word becomes a sign – an abstract sign – repeated on the stone’s surface and emptied of meaning. The dematerialization of language is one of the principal achievements of her 70-year artistic research and output. Read more -

Part 2: Callisto 7 Dec 2020 - 9 Jan 2021 Drawing on the story of Callisto as told in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Part 2 of 'Alexis Hunter: Money Art Sex,' curated by Hettie Judah, explores themes of sexual threat, sisterhood and jealousy.
In her art, including here a selection of prints, photographs, collage and oil paintings, Hunter explored how the fetishisation of women’s bodies, the promotion of unrealistic beauty ideals and the aspiration to a glossy lifestyle were bound up in the cultural convention that women were in competition with one another. The school changed the course of Soviet architecture, and its influence can be seen internationally in many later developments.
