For our first collaboration with British artist Jennifer BINNIE (b. 1958) we are excited to offer a small selection of works on paper, exceptionally priced between £450 and £800 each, for two weeks only!
You might recognise her work from RE/SISTERS at the Barbican and Women in Revolt! at Tate Britain (now at National Galleries of Scotland), where she was a discovery for many.
With her paintings priced at between £10-20,000 (each) at our stand at Frieze London, this is an amazing opportunity to acquire a unique work by this pioneering eco-feminist and artist!
"Autumn in Folkington is the title of a short super 8 film I made around 1982 with Grayson Perry, my partner at the time. I planned a ritual in Folkington woods which are close to my home in East Sussex. It was before we had discovered body paint so I used red powder paint to colour my body. Along with the two dogs I cast a circle in the red paint, lit a small fire and enacted my own ritualistic death and rebirth as a deer which I had painted on a large, round canvas.
Thinking about this film, what it meant to me 40 years ago and what it means now, I have started to make some new paintings which relate to it".
- Jennifer Binnie
Sussex-based artist Jennifer BINNIE (1958 -) contributed greatly to the art scene of the late 70s as part of the Neo-Naturists. Over a 40 year practise she has created works that resonate with her surroundings, particularly nature, and have stretched beyond the bounds of the canvas and into the areas of performance, film and sculpture.
In the early 80s, Binnie moved to London and shared a squat with her sister Christine Binnie and her then partner, Grayson Perry; she soon began performing alongside the Neo Naturists, a performance art/cabaret group. The squat ended in the late 80s and Binnie moved back to the countryside where her paintings of this time have been influenced by her passion for nature, animals and the Sussex landscape, as well as ancient myths associated with rites of passage, rituals and grounding.
